Pocket Change, Inc. was founded in September of 2007 by Rachel Hommel, an investment research analyst with a small Registered Investment Advisory firm in Portland, Oregon. Starting in the financial industry in 1997, Rachel has volunteered to teach basic financial literacy to the clients of numerous nonprofit social service organizations.
A transplant to Oregon in the spring of 2007, Rachel attended Millersville University, a Pennsylvania State School, in her hometown of Lancaster, PA. After spending her first five post-university years in supervisory positions in the social services field, she began a career in financial services in 1997. She has held insurance and variable and fixed annuities licenses and the Series 7, 66, 65 and 31 securities licenses. Ms. Hommel is supported by a full board of directors and a solid core of volunteers who bring a wide range of expertise and insight to the organization.
About Pocket Change, Inc.
We...
...Believe those who need it most can afford it least. We never charge our clients for our programs. Instead, we work with corporations, communities and private individuals to get the funding we need to deliver our programs.
...Define financial freedom as the ability to see and use money as an effective tool to further personal and societal growth toward wealthier lives physically, intellectually and spiritually.
...Know that financial education is essential to economic growth in every society, community and individual, but financial information alone will not create the economic changes we wish to see in ourselves and our communities. Knowledge of the facts is not enough – we must also know the facts about ourselves.
...Teach our clients to examine, dissect, disassemble, redefine and rebuild their relationship with money. We teach our clients the basic facts about how our economy works on every basic level from loans and credit to budgeting and taxes, giving them the tools to navigate the landscape along the path to financial freedom.
