Tony Hartl is the author of Selling Sunshine, 75 tips, Tools and Tactics for Becoming a Wildly Successful Entrepreneur. Tony graduated from Southern Illinois University in 1991. Beginning in 1988 through 1994 he focused his business career goals in the fitness industry. Growing quickly, he attained the position of Vice-President of Sales and Marketing for a Health Club Chain with multi-unit responsibilities in three states managing 350 employees. Read more....
In 1995 he founded Planet Tan in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex with three locations and a vision “to provide an affordable luxury where everybody can feel better about themselves”. The company grew into one of the most recognizable brands in the area and represented the premier collection of indoor mega-salons in the country.
By 2008, Planet Tan boasted 17 locations and 160 employees, and generated average per unit sales of $1 million, the highest in the country. That November, Tony sold the company and soon made plans to travel the world.
Tony makes his home in Dallas and New Orleans, and in addition to his contributions to the community, he has a passion for mentoring aspiring entrepreneurs. He sits currently on the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship Board and has been a guest lecturer at The Caruth Institute of Entrepreneurship at SMU’s Cox Business School. His achievements have been published in numerous well-known print media, including Inc. Magazine, Fortune Small Business, and The Dallas Morning News.
